I just did the my rear brakes, easy peasy, used Bosch BC2200 pads, no scanner needed, no power source with jumper wires needed, just a 5mm allen wrench and T45 torx bit. The caliper bolts are 14mm.

Once the caliper is removed, use the 5mm allen wrench to remove the two electric parking brake motor bolts, separate the motor from the caliper, I did unplug the motors.

Now insert the Torx T45 into the rear of the caliper and turn (by hand) until it stops, put a block of wood in the caliper just in case you turn the internal screw the wrong way so it doesnt push the caliper piston out of the caliper, then back it off just a bit to keep some freeplay in the mechanism, you have just retracted the internal screw mechanism, now push the caliper piston in like you would any other, reinstall electric parking brake motor back onto the caliper, Install new brakes, reinstall caliper.

Wheels are back on, pump the brakes first to hydraulically push the caliper pistons out, then apply the electric parking brakes, you will hear the electric motors run for a little bit longer to pick up the gap from winding them back in with the torx T45, engage and disengage the electric parking brakes several times, you are ready to road test.

Thank you !!! That was perfect.

More people need to start voicing these issues on NHSTA.org so that the manufacturer is forced to remedy the issue. I checked today and so far there have only been 13 reported complaints regarding premature rear brake pad wear for the 2022 Pathfinder. There are more complaints on here than on their site.

I understand the concern here but let’s be very frank - this is NOT a safety issue and the NHSTA will not do anything about this. Most people are averaging well into the 20k+ miles before needing rear brakes. I’m over 15k in my 23’ Rock creek and my rears have PLENTY of life left. Yes they are wearing faster than other vehicles I own but I wont be doing rear brakes until 25k-30k mile mark as of now, if even then. This again is not an NHSTA concern or issue, don’t waste your time.

The Nissan dealer is too expensive for brakes. They pretend you just need pads and then you suddenly need pads and rotors. And then they tell you only the dealership is equipped to replace these brakes due to the computer needing to be put into maintenance mode. Anyone try another shop like Pep Boys or Mavis to get their rear brakes done? I have 23K miles and need rear brakes asap. Thank you.

You can do it yourself if you have some basic mechanical skills.
The most difficult part is to wind back the electrical park brake actuators. You can use a 12VDC battery for that.
You tube has few videos how to do this.
At 23k miles you hardly need to replace the rotors, just brake pads.

Another shop can do it just fine. I don't work for Nissan and my scan tool will put the brakes in maintenance mode just fine. You can also use a power probe or battery and leads to disengage the rear calipers.

I'm lucky enough to have the Toyota Techstream OEM level software for my other ride.

But if you do want a scantool that can do some functions, look into Autel AP200 (now 2500) or Elite Launch X431 Full System Bi-Directional Scanner for Nissan/Infiniti/GTR - https://a.co/d/h1vCMrJ. Some of the other brands seem to come with some basic functions like brake service, injector coding, maybe even key coding.

Thanks, you know its really amazing that I was at Empire Mazda of Huntington yesterday, where I bought my RC used with 11k (a female prior owner switched to a Mazda because she couldn't stand the sound of the tires), and the mechanic couldn't replace the brakes, even after recommending rear brakes. The reason was that they had the wrong scan tool but would ask the Chevy dealership down the road to loan them theirs while I waited 5 hours. Was only there for my free oil changes. I have an appointment at a local mechanic on Monday who assures me they won't have the same problem which is, some kind of inability to disable/bypass the e-brake to free the caliper.

Those tires do take some getting used to if you've never heard truck all-terrain tires. They are very grippy. I'm going to check the pads next oil change on ours just to see where they're at.

I was at the dealership today and asked what is the cost to replace rear brake pads.
It's about 520 CAD and involves rotors resurfacing (apparently it's mandatory) , even at 30k km.
So it will be a DIY job for me.
So I dropped 250CAD on Launch x431 Elite 2.0 Pro. Hope it works well

Let me know if it does. I was looking at Elite launch which says it covers it but you never know.

I haven't looked at a price of rotors these days but last brake job I did, it was the same price to get new decent rotors as getting them resurfaced. Many shops gave up their lathes or no one knows how to run and maintain them.
