engine vanity cover

I just bought a '24 SV and after I got home I noticed there is no plastic vanity cover on the engine. You know, the thing that hides the engine so when you pop the hood it looks like a hotwheel car. I called up the salesman and he said only the higher trims (SL and Platinum) have that plastic cover. Now I don't really care much about the cover being there or not, but I do care about if the salesman is lying to me and the dealership somehow lost the cover.

So, anyone on here have a '24 SV and can tell me if yours came with or without the plastic cover under the hood that hides the engine?

They serve little purpose other than giving rodents a nice place to hide and gives them nest building materials (foam on the underside). I pop mine off on my 2019 every time I do an engine oil change because you have better access to the oil fill with it off. I may just leave it off at some point.

We just got my 2019 back from the collision shop tonight. $8700 worth of damage due to a deer strike. The shop was closed, so I had to pick it up after hours. Guess what was missing? The engine cover. It can't remember if it was broken or not due to the collision. Even though I don't care about the thing, it P's me off that they "forgot" about it. They also filled it up with some type of universal yellow coolant. That irritates me too.

Hey @PoManzPathy - I didn't realize you had a 'deer strike' - sorry this happened to you. Are you okay?
I guess you are going to reach out for the body shop during regular hours to find out what happened. It'll be interesting to hear what they have to say!!
Even if you don't really care about the engine cover, if it was there to begin with, the shop needs to make it right.
As for the mystery coolant - that requires an explanation as well.
Good luck!!

Thank you Sir! Yes, my wife was rattled, but not physically. We're used to taking precautions for deer, having lived where we do our whole lives. In ~35yrs of driving, this would be the first hit that required major work. She hit that sucker dead center, where it went kind of over the bumper, through the grille and did a lot of damage. It happened just a few miles from the house, so she was able to drive it home. It only had a slow coolant leak and the headlamps were still working even though they were all over the place. LOL $8700 damage when the vehicle is worth maybe $16K tops.

At ~100K miles, I don't care about the engine cover. I pop it off constantly anyway to check over everything. I've gotten over the coolant thing too. I'm more happy I got a "free" coolant service and A/C service at this mileage. Those two maintenance items alone would have probably been ~$500 charge alone. My ins. deductible was $500.

The car was repaired with mostly LKQ aftermarket parts. Lots of genuine Nissan parts as well 3-4 pages of parts/services. They use what ever they can get quickly. We had lots of nicks and dings and some broken plastic on the front before any of this happened. It's better than what it was before the deer hit.

This was removed from most trims for the 2023 model year. What bothers me more on the Rock Creek is the plastic trim panels on the rear doors instead of matching leather wrapped panels like what is on the front doors. All the interior pictures of the prerelease model had leather trim with orange stitching on all the doors. And don't even get me started on the puddle lights and rear power outlet.

Hey @matty - I'm not sure I believe (trust) the service manager's reply. One good way to check out his explanation would be to check out other new 2024 Pathfinder Rock Creek vehicles and see if they have the shroud in place. You can check out the different trim levels to see if it installed based on trim or, not at all.

No I didn't get an engine cover either on my 2024 rock creek...just another thing to add to the growing list of how they cheapened even basic things out...my beef is the fact that there isn't even a button on dash to push to release the trunk...and more frustrating is that nissan won't remedy most of these things even if u r the one paying

Follow up on engine cover. When I asked the dealer the service advisor didn't know jack which is typical. The technician said they don't come with a engine cover. What's more, I read the 2026 Pathfinder is switching to the 4 cylinder turbo charged engine that is currently in the Infiniti version of the Pathfinder. I believe it is the Q50. I'm betting/speculating since the V6 is getting obsoleted from the Pathfinder Nissan is cutting cost by doing away with the engine cover. We only considered the Pathfinder because Nissan finally woke up and replaced the POS CVT with a regular geared transmission and it has a normally aspirated V6. Sorry for the CVT dig on 2013 to 2021 Pathfinder owners. I'll keep you in my prayers. Now it seems Nissan is going to undo this smart move by going to the smaller turbo charged engine. As we all know small high compression engines have more pep but a shorter life span. IMO this is another example of planned obsolescence.

If it helps justify your purchase, we were close to buying a Toyota Highlander which had pretty much all the same features as the Pathfinder, but it was pricing out nearly $20k more, so we ended up with the Nissan. So yes, Nissan did do a lot of annoying cost cutting, but value wise, you can't beat it for what you get. And I'm happy to have $20k extra that is in the market making more money. 🙂
