Going on the dreaded Coquihalla in BC (Canada) and it's sometimes gets 70+ cm of snow overnight... we usually take the Sienna because of all the crap we take skiing, but now I have a roof box for the Pathfinder.

was thinking of either taking my 2017 SL 4WD or our 2014 AWD Sienna...

both have the same tires (defender LTX MS) with snow chains/cables.

both basically have the same clearance, but the Pathfinder has 4wd vs AWD on the van.

which do you think i should bring?

Sounds like you got it covered. I can't imagine the Pathy would fare any worse or better than the Sienna with the equipment you plan to bring. Just make sure the tires are up to the task.

I would definitely take the Pathy, especially with snow chains. If I ran into weather I would rather have and use 4WD rather than AWD. I found the Pathy extremely well balance vehicle and quite capable in snowy conditions.
Back in 2014 there were a couple of doozy snow storms and I was one of the few who actually made it to work with very little trouble at all.

I replaced a Sienna AWD with my current Pathfinder. I've never felt any advantage from one another driving in the snow.
The Pathfinder does have hill descent control which I once used on an icy hill and worked great and maybe a bit more ground clearance than the Sienna.
My Sienna didn't have a way to disable traction control (maybe the new ones do). That is something you might need if you get stuck.

The yota would be nicer to have to spend the night in if you had to IMO.
I spent a night in the back of my '18 Pathfinder in a parking lot once. My spouse has an '18 Sienna ad I agree it would have been a bigger/flatter/nicer campsite. Although once i get back into the drivers seat, I greatly perfer my Pathy... :)

The front seats are pretty darn comfortable in an R52 pathfinder. Agreed.

took the pathfinder, it was a beast in the snow/ice. little sluggish on the massive hills, but that's expected.

im a newby. What does R52 & R53 mean?
It's the generation designation that Nissan gave to the Pathfinder. If you'll notice the forum headings here, each generation has it's own section. This site was originally dedicated to the R52 crossover version but has since expanded to include all the Pathfinder generations.
