No screen, no HVAC or radio controls, no headrest DVD *SOLVED*

13731 Views 15 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  ammad1989
Got myself a strange electrical gremlin in my 2013 Platinum. On frequent mornings, not all of them though, the radio screen, radio controls, HVAC controls, and the headrest DVD players all do not work. They won't turn on until the car has been running for 2 to 5 minutes. I think I've noticed this happened primarily on mornings when it's raining or has rained overnight or when it has been exceptionally humid.

Has anyone else ever seen this problem?

We finally discovered the problem. It was the radio receiver, the main AV console. Part number 259159GE1A. It controls all those functions that were failing for me.

It runs a cool $6,300 from the dealer, and I was out of warranty.

So, I found one for under $300 bucks on eBay with a warranty, and I'm going to swap it out myself.

nice "cheap" fix! :)
Well, turns out that wasn't the fix either. Installed a new radio and nothing came on when I first started the car. I let her run for a minute and it came to life again. So the hunt continues...
FIXED IT!

I couldn't believe the fix. It was the ACC relay located above the engine, passenger side. It's the blue relay next to the brake lamp relay...which I had to replace months ago because of an acceleration/brake light issue.

I tested my theory by swapping those two relays out. The radio was turning on every time and never shutting off. So I drove down to AutoZone once more, and replaced the ACC relay just like I replaced the brake lamp relay.

...and they wanted to charge me over $6K for the wrong fix.

Awesome! <clapping sounds> Hard to image why unrelated relays cause such nonsense - bad engineering I guess.
Good to know, i'm sure you won't be the last to experience this, seeing the brake relay was a big issue for many also.
The idea came to me by searching other threads with people who had a similar issue. No one had ever found a solution, but one of the issues I noticed with my PF was the remote start was also intermittent. Someone recommended to replace the brake relay to fix that. I remembered I had already replace that but there was another really next to it that look just like it. So when I popped it open and saw ACC, I figured that had to be it. Sure enough, that's what it was. I wonder if it has something to do with the heat it must face being right above the engine. But then again, those other fuses and relays right next to those two have never caused any problem. Knock on wood...

Hmm, this matches my problem exactly. I hosed my stereo, screen, and climate controls while trying to install an output line converter for a sub. The remote start does not work either! I have been going insane looking for a fuse. Might try to replace this relay.

Thanks for coming back and posting the solution!

Did you slove the problem..by changing the relay??
I just spent 2.5+ months with my car at a Nissan dealer attempting to have this fixed. Frustrated after the second AV module replacement, my wife stumbled upon your post. So far, so good. Thank you.

Dealers have no incentive to do it cheaply. Either Nissan pays the warranty cost, or you do. I must say my dealer is aheckuva lot better than most. I wish the vehicle was as good as the dealer service staff!

Do I have to replace both relays? I replaced the ACC and nothing changed
I have a 2017 Pathfinder SL and the Radio control panel and control panel above it with all the buttons; climate, settings, status, camera... no longer work. Display above still works fine. I can control the radio, source, volume from the steering wheel and AC by voice control but control panels are out of commission. Any chance my problem is the ACC relay? Just a few days before the controls quit working, I spilt a full cup of coffee in the passenger side floor board. I have the tech matts and all of it seemed to stay in the mat.

Hey, I am facing the same issue, and the dealership told me the exact same thing to replace it with the 259159GE1A part, which is around an insane $7k. I will try out your ACC relay fix. Can you please let me know what exact part is needed? I googled it and seem to be lost. Please help!
