Bought an 07 pathfinder a month ago, had driven beautifully. Took it for an oil change two weeks ago, and the car was so silent he had to ask me if it was on. Over the passed two weeks I’ve noticed a squeal on cold start in the morning(assuming it is a belt-maybe serpentine) and after about 5 seconds, it’s stops and only happens after it’s been sitting a few hours and isn’t warmed up, typical and I was going to take it in this week for either an adjustment or replacement. Today, I’m on my way home from work, after driving about 40 minutes I stop at the gas station, turn off the car and go in for literally two minutes, start the car and go. 2 minutes down the road I hear a noise, but the ac was on as well as the radio, so I couldn’t even recall the sound to describe it. I immediately turn everything off to listen, and pull in my driveway because it’s only a mile from the gas station. Sitting with my foot on the brake, it sounds like a loud knocking and all of a sudden my oil drops to zero and indicates low oil pressure. It’s a metal clanking, immediately think of a rod knock, but it oddly sounds like it’s spitting and sputtering a bit too? A very strange combination. I waited awhile to start it again, I know I should not be starting it but I needed to know where it was coming from, after sitting for awhile the noise is not as bad as it was at all, but clearly is still knocking on tin and the oil pressure light was on. 3 hours later, I start it again and it sounds fine, not dead silent but the noise isn’t there and the pressure light went off. Of all the videos I’ve watched the closest ones that replicated the noise had to do with crankshaft bearings, alternator bearings, rod bearings, timing chain. So many options. Does this seem DOA? I really feel like I may explode at this point 🙃 I just joined and cannot for the life of me figure out how to upload a video with this.
