Last night my pathfinder was broken into, and my wallet (containing my only FOB) was stolen. My good friend is an auto locksmith and came to reprogram me a new key. He told me that the computer wipes any previous codes, so the stolen FOB couldn’t work, but the emergency key might. What I just read about using the key because of a dead FOB battery it sounds like you would need the fob. Is that true, or do I need to worry about my car being stolen too?

The metal key inside the fob will only work to open the door but you cannot start the vehicle with it. Make sure the other key fob is erased, if I were you I'll go to the dealer ans ask them to check that there is only one key fob (the new one) programmed to the vehicle.
