Dealer Drags Feet on Repairing 2020 Pathfinder SL!!

I recently purchased my pre-owned 2020 SL from a dealer locally on Dec. 8th, 2022. I pointed out the issues I had with the vehicle, and they asked to address it when the plates, titles, etc. arrived in January. They took the vehicle in on Jan. 28th or so saying it should take 4 days to fix liftgate of closing issues. Short story: they've had it since as it now approaches 7 weeks. I've been on the phone many times and visited them on March 1st at 4 weeks. They claimed they couldn't find the fix (or sensor which caused it) and are still trying to get it to close. They gave me a loaner and said they'd fix without charge. What recourse or effort should I take to get the car fixed, etc.? I'm wondering about what other actions/ideas you might take to resolve the issue? Thanks.

7 weeks way too long! IMO Id be getting a full refund before it was too late. Example when I bought mine with failed cooling fans the dealer sprayed PB Blaster on the motor casings vs. replacing them as it sat in the shop for a week (Nissan El Paso Tx) in the amount of time my refund was past return policy. Shady business practices even though I fixed it myself in 2 hours it was just principle IMO.... Warranty work doesn't pay so they drag it out with excuses/misdirection giving you a loaner. Id be calling 2x a day for status updates since you just bought it #NoMoreMrNiceGuy

Well, they have my claim on record and so do I concerning a replacement or trade in, etc. I'm curious as to how to handle the issue: ie. sternest/boldness, with decor/diplomatic, ask for a 2021, etc. and offer to pay the difference and negotiate, threats of lawsuit, etc. I'm curious as to how you and others here as well would address the issue (including your suggestion of constant calls...). Thanks folks.

Was this a Nissan dealer that you bought it from? I never really understood auto open/close for a lift gate. It's nothing but problems as the vehicle ages. I hear you though, you bought the vehicle from them and the system should at least work as designed.

Regardless, I'd keep piling the miles, wear and tear on their loaner and let them figure out what to do. Miles, wear and tear aren't being put on your new to you pathfinder.

Well, I don't drive enough as a retired senior, so I only put 120 miles on in 7 wks, just to Dr. or Walmart. <smile>... However, Yes, it was a pre-owned 2020 Pathfinder from All-Star Nissan dealership for $25,000. It's been in the shop longer at 7 weeks than I got to drive it in 6 weeks. Yes, it should work and the problems existed at sale and they claim they will handle the repair and loaner costs. But, I want/bought my car to use, not sit in the shop for continuing there since the last week in January. I'm wondering HOW I would address them soon: give warning/threat, accept it, get a lawyer, demand it right away? Give me the $25,000 total towards a similar or upgrade with my cost to next model year? I'm a bit confused as nothing like this ever happened to me on repairs in my lifetime. What say y'all?

I’d hit them with 1 simple demand. Either the car you purchased fixed by 04/01/2023 or a check for $25,000. If either can’t happen, you are calling your attorney.

And when I say a check for $25,000, I mean a check for EVERY SINGLE PENNY YOU GAVE THEM.

A Good choice. I'd like to see a choice given to me of "upgrade" of the model, perhaps to 2021 Pathfinder, but pre-owned cars may not have multiple pathfinders and models. Thanks. Any other solutions which might work folks? Thanks again for your time.!!
You can certainly hit them with the lawyer route. I know people who have gone this route. You just have to understand that will end any type of action, sales or service from this dealer on this vehicle. From that point on, everything will be between the dealer's lawyer and your lawyer. You'll get your money back though.

Yea just get refund and walk away from that place, ACTUALLY RUN far away from that place!!!
Today, I got in touch after they've had it for 2 months. The loaner "renewal" (every 30 days is due to travel the 5 miles there to sign paperwork) as well. They claim that they've changed a few "sensors" to get the hatch to work without success. They notified the corporate service team and the dealership is told the cause is rare but known and could be caused by a distance away in millimeters in gap which prevent it from closing, so they'll try that before ordering a new door for closure. (Both literally and figuratively). Dealers are so full of ____ that they are virtually unbelievable to the customer. TWO MONTHS! I'm a little shy that if I try to attempt a refund, that they'll keep things longer and string it out or I'll have to lose any investment in money or time spent after the sale. I wish I could get a definitive answer as to the issue. It's a bit sickening.

You will loose your dealer supplied loaner vehicle if you go the legal route. Again- This is what happened to the people I know of who went this route.
happened to the peopl
Yeah, I won't have any vehicle to drive and would have to fit the bill for almost $100 a day rental until I can find a car with no way to get around to do that, PoManzPathy. One might say "I got punked."

I hear you and feel for you.

For an issue so minor, I would take the vehicle back as is and trade it in elsewhere for something else. You probably won't loose much, if any money on trade-in allowance.
Massachusetts has a lemon law - the car is defective - they are not putting time into fixing your car - it's been sitting in their lot not being touched. Contact the attorney generals office - they sold you a lemon and clearly can't fix it - complete refund - plus all fees

I do understand. I feel the same. Presently, I feel that a 2 months rental, paid by them is instituting some sort of retribution. However, I will give them one more month. Perhaps it's time they understand that: They don't have experience in all matters that pertain to repairs, and why it took so long to get their "corporate advice" or any service bulletins which describe this event. I don't understand how a simple problem of a automatic door not closing can become a monumental issue. The dealership claims it changed a bundle of sensors and it's still occurring. Now they "think" that it might be an alignment issue where the door does not fit within range of sensors, etc. Imagine that. They are the blind leading the blind.
Does your trunk open automatically when you hit the button ? Both at the trunk and at the dash ? Mine I can even swipe my foot underneath and it will open. But Yelling OPEN SAYS ME .. it won't..

If it opens doesn't open automatically I would check the fuses, second I would check the computer in the middle of the dash - it can be disabled and enabled from there as well.

My problem is NOT that it won't open. All devices (dash, hatch door, remote, foot swipe) does OPEN the hatch door. The issue in my case is that it will not CLOSE from any of those sources. I would like to see a service bulletin of any other issues or problems determined, recalls, etc. of breakdowns, reports or fixes. I can't be the only Pathfinder 2000 owner whose rear hatchback door doesn't work to close.
When your trunk is open, you push and hold the button on the trunk itself - does it beep ? If it doesn't then the power isn't getting there. My 2020 Pathfinder SL Rock Creek Premium had problems when someone would hit and hold the button resetting the stop location - and it stopped opening - had to force it open and closed. I had to reset the liftgate

If the fuses are good - they put the car into shipping mode - then take it out of shipping mode - which resets the trunk.
Don’t think lemon law applies to a 2020 car when it’s 2023…,

It applies to new and used cars
