2022 Power Liftgate Not Working

7007 Views 36 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  osweigart
Looking for some help or opinions on my options.

The power Liftgate on my 2022 SL stopped working in early March. Also, anytime the vehicle is in motion a beeping noise associated with the Liftgate sounds off.

The dealer finally was able to get me in 2.5 weeks later and said it was a failed part they had to order. 1.5 weeks later the part arrives and they install it. Still doesn't fix the Liftgate or the beeping noise.

They say the problem is they cannot get the door to be relearned and is a programming problem they'll have to send to Nissan. Apparently, it's been sent to Nissan Japan.

Here we are 2 months after it stopped working and the dealer can't give me any idea when Nissan may have a fix.

I can't continue to not have use of the Liftgate as I use this vehicle for work. Any opinions on where I go from here? Are my options to just wait an indefinite amount of time for a fix from Nissan or sell a 5 month old vehicle? Try a different dealer?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Copper - this is a tough one, that's for sure.
I know how you feel about 'how can I be selling a 5-month old vehicle?", versus waiting indefinitely to the dealer to fix the liftgate. Does the liftgate not work at all? The key fob, the dashboard release AND the liftgate button all do not work? If so, that would be a TOTAL failure, not being able to access the rear cargo area!
Phew!!
This is a tough choice!!
What are you thinking?

The Liftgate does not open using any of the buttons.

I'm not sure what to do. It seems crazy they can't get some kind of timeline estimate from Nissan, but that's what they're saying.
Welcome to the forum.
From your comments, Nissan is already involved so there is no point on going to another dealer. At this point the dealer will just do what Nissan tells them to.
You could look into the lemon law for your state and see if you can get a buyback but then you'll be waiting who knows how many months for a replacement.
This is a new vehicle and sometimes it takes time for Nissan to figure out how to fix certain things. They not always have the answer to all problems/issues that arise and it takes tome to find a solution.

My thought on the different dealer was in case the issue was being misdiagnosed.

Thanks for the input.
I've had issues using the hatch button, where it won't open unless I hold my hand on the latch as it starts to lift, then it rises up ok. Otherwise it just relocks.

I also have the beeping noise. I haven't taken it in yet, though. If Nissan is aware I may wait to see if a recall is issued.

Hello! Did you solve your problem with the liftgate?
I ended up taking the vehicle to another Nissan dealer last week for a second opinion. That dealer believes the problem is with a "power control module" in the dash and has ordered a replacement. Unfortunately, the part is backordered. I'll update this thread once it arrives and gets installed. Hopefully it fixes the problem, as I've not been able to use the liftgate for almost 3 months now.

The original dealer disconnected the chime a few weeks ago, so at least that's not sounding when the vehicle is moving anymore.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long. BTW, just in case you're interested, looks like EBAY has a couple of parted-out 22's that recently posted. Thanks for sharing!

Update: The new dealer replaced the "power control module" but the liftgate still does not work. They've been working with Nissan engineers for the past two weeks and replaced a couple other parts as directed by Nissan. The last update I received said they were checking out the wire harness.

They've given me a new Nissan Titan as a loaner while they're troubleshooting mine, so that is very much appreciated! Keeping my fingers crossed they find something soon.

Nice touch, them giving you a Titan -that must be fun to drive.
Softens the repair headache delay a little.
I do hope they resolve this for you - it will make us all feel better!
Nice! Interesting how wire harness seems to be the culprit on yours too. A couple of other posters shared crazy new vehicle issues that also seems to be related to the wire harness. With everything that's going on around the world, manufacturers are scrambling to replace wire harness vendors as a lot of that was being done in Ukraine. Hopefully just temporary growing pains as they sort that out.
This just started happening to my 22’ platinum pathfinder today. I have an appointment on Tuesday, any pointers on how to get this resolved? Very irritating

Just be as specific as you can with the facts. When it started, does it do it all the time, did you accidentally try closing it with something in the way, what buttons do you use when it doesn't work.

My 2022 SL has been doing this for about a month. I’m concerned because a few of you are experiencing this issue as well, but according to the service manager and Nissan “engineers” this is not a known issue (right). After the initial repair that didn’t work, they said the next thing would be to replace latch. The part has been on back order but has been located and I go back this week to let them repair. After seeing this post, I’m already prepared to be disappointed.

Well, let's be optimistic - I will wish you 'good luck!'. Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you!
There's nothing to be concerned about. I say this all the time - what you're reading on the internet is a very tiny fraction of the vehicles out there It's easy for people to think there is a common issue because 30 people reported having it online when a person who actually sees these things multiple times, on a daily basis, when they are broken, never sees it at all. You are just casting a huge net.

That's a great point, Tutti!
These reports, although they are troublesome to hear, represent the exception rather than the rule. I like hearing about them here, just so I have my antennae up in case they were to surface here!

Thought I’d update the post and let you all know that my issue was FIXED. They replaced the tail gate opener actuator (part: UM17AA). Pretty grateful cause after a month riding around with the chime piercing my ears, I really started to despise a car that I love so much. If anyone else is having the same issue, this is probably the fix for you. I engaged Nissan consumer affairs through Twitter and they worked with the dealership to locate the part since supply chain issues have impacted most parts. They were a big help.
