Hi Guys,

I recently picked up a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. I noticed that when I'm driving at a constant speed on the highway (60mph/100km/h) the rpms flutter. I used to have a 2019 Pathfinder but I never really paid attention to the RPM gage. Is this normal? Do you think this needs a new transmission?

Here's a video:

The car is still under factory warranty. I told the dealer about the issue but I'm not sure what they need to see/hear in order to take the issue seriously.

Note: This doesn't happen at idle or when the car isn't at a constant speed. While accelerating and during idle the needle acts as you would expect it to.

Welcome to the forum.

Its your tachometer, not your transmission.
Mine did that (watch here). The whole cluster had to be replaced which was a nightmare since the new unit came in programmed with 7k km more than what mine had and dealer tried to cover it. They then had to remove the new one and send it somewhere to have the mileage adjusted correctly which took about two weeks.

Can you feel or hear the engine RPMs changing in conjunction with what the tachometer is doing? If not, like you say, I'd ignore the tach.

Did you ever end up having issue from this? I have the same year/make/model and it just started happening to me as well.

I've noticed this at idle in my 2018 SV Tech, but not while driving. I can hear engine fluctuate tho, so likely not cluster issue like yours. Pretty minor though, and has done it since I got this 3 years and 150,000KM ago (At 16,000K)
