buying a new 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SV Mileage: 34,183- but the carfax says it was a manufacturer buyback - anyway to know what the buyback was for - i realize this year has many CVT issues on it. also there is a warrant guarantee for it :
Nissan Pathfinder with Full Bumper to Bumper Warranty remaining through 08/27/2017 or 36k miles and Drivetrain Warranty through 08/27/2019 or 60k miles
dealer wants 20,999 for it
any suggestions

I'd pass, David. The full bumper-to-bumper only lasts another 2000 miles, which will come fast, and you're already halfway to 60,000 miles also. Nissan doesn't buy back vehicles unless there were some serious issues, and I'm afraid you'll only be inheriting someone else's problem.

If you look on Auto Trader.com, for about $6000 more, there are more possibilities. I even found this 2014 SV with only 11,000 miles:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=80202&endYear=2014&modelCode1=PATH&showcaseOwnerId=68714757&makeCode1=NISSAN&startYear=1981&firstRecord=0&searchRadius=0&showcaseListingId=421941060&trim1=PATH%7CSV&mmt=%5BNISSAN%5BPATH%5BPATH%257CSV%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&listingId=437136094&Log=0

I'm glad you checked in with us first.
